What's Needed For This Assignment:
Twice over the course of the semester, you are to submit a 3-4-page essay that expands on one of your previous weekly responses, considering the original prompt and/or issues you raised in response to it in greater depth. The requirements for the essays are as follows:
3-4 double spaced pages, size 12 font.
Each essay should clearly address the original prompt, or some specific aspect/facet of it.
The focus of the essay should not go beyond addressing the issues raised in the original prompt.
The essay should be addressed to a general audience, and written in a way that does not presume prior knowledge of the topic/focus of the essay.
Where appropriate, the essay should give consideration to counterarguments or other perspectives on the issue at hand.
Each essay should make use of information from one or more outside sources that is relevant to the topic at hand.
EXAMPLE: If you make the claim that ‘people have gotten more depressed over the last 20 years’, you should cite some source that provides proof that this is the case.
Other Requirements Related to Your Writing:
The paper should be organized into thematically distinct paragraphs and sections, which are themselves arranged in a logical order that supports the overall focus of the paper (see “Organization†outline, below).
Write in a way that addresses a consistent audience. You may choose to write to an uninformed/novice audience, or a more advanced audience. If you choose to address a more advanced audience, your writing should not contain definitions of basic terms, unless these are being scrutinized. If you address a novice audience, then the essay should not introduce terms that have not been clearly defined.
Organization:
Your paper should include the following content/sections:
Title, author, date
Introduction that briefly introduces the focus and scope of the paper (i.e., makes clear what the paper is about, and the topics that are covered)
Body paragraphs: The main ideas/arguments/sub-topics of the paper should be broken down in a logical way across the body paragraphs. Each paragraph should (1) have a specific theme/purpose, (2) contribute in a clear way to the overall argument/focus of the paper, and (3) connect logically with the preceding and following paragraphs.
Conclusion: Briefly describe the overall conclusions of the paper and any lingering questions/future directions for inquiry
