Conducting a Quick Screen for Trauma – Child Interview
Intro- Briefly describe the setting and the two people involved in the scenario. /30
So What –Helper. Identify 10 specific communication skills/microskills used during the scenario by the helper. Discuss their use of these 10 skills. How did they use the skills? Is there anything you would have done differently? Are there other skills you might have used? Elaborate.
So What – Client. Describe how you interpreted the experience of the person with a problem (hint – focus on verbal and nonverbal communication). Describe how it may have felt to be on the receiving end of some of the techniques the helper was using. Describe anything you feel would have been an effective communication style with the person getting help – meaning what techniques could have been used that would work well with them.
So What – Observer. Describe the experience of being an observer and what you learned about interviewing (or the helping process) from watching the role-play.
What now – Describe what you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses in communicating/interviewing in the helping process. What would you like to consider in the future?
