Metformin and Glyburide

You are doing a home visit for Mr. TY, a 42-year-old type 2 diabetic. While looking at Mr. TY’s pillbox, you notice that he did not take his morning dose of Metformin. When you ask Mr. TY about the missed dose, he says “I must have forgotten, give it to me now, it’s only 20 minutes late.” What should be done if an oral antidiabetic dose of medication is missed?

Mr. TY asks why he is taking Metformin and Glyburide, wont one medication do the “trick”?  Often antidiabetic medications are taken together.  Why?

Mr. TY hates taking his medication and wants to know when he can stop taking them.  Are oral antidiabetic drugs lifelong treatments?
