In this reflection essay, you will demonstrate your understanding and application of the three models of treatment: psychiatric, Good Lives, and R-N-R. The essay should include the following:
• How the three models (psychiatric, Good Lives, and R-N-R) are similar and different in their assumptions, approach to treatment and management of risk of reoffending for justice-involved persons who have mental illness
• Which models are most effective and fair for children with mental illness, adults with a dual diagnosis, and adults with post-traumatic stress disorder and be sure to provide a detailed explanation for your choices? Discuss whether these models need to be tailored to specific subcategories of offending within these three categories, and be sure to note the subgroups.
• What system and personal barriers may impede the effectiveness of each of the three models, particularly addressing how each model might enhance or reduce stigma associated with mental illness, clients’ taking responsibility for their actions, and clients’ obtaining a prosocial purpose for their lives, and how each might address clients who lack social support. In addition to think of one additional barrier and compare it across the three models.
• Select one of these groups (children with mental illness, adults with a dual diagnosis (be specific about the mental illness), adults with post-traumatic stress disorder) and provide a specific example of a treatment and supervision program that you believe would be appropriate and effective. You may choose an existing program but must add at least two unique component that you think of and indicate from which models (R-N-R, Good Lives, psychiatric) these unique components derive from
• For the treatment and supervision program you selected, please indicate whether it derives primarily from the psychiatric model, the Good Lives Model, or the R-N-R model and explain your answer.
Finally, identify at least four major implications or lessons from these class reading materials and class discussion.
It is expected that you will meaningfully connect and integrate the articles to draw your conclusions, and that you will integrateone article from six different weeks for a total of at least sixarticles. The essay should be between 1300 to 1700 words, excluding references and title page. A reference page should be provided in APA style, and all citations in the text should be APA style (that includes refraining from having the title of an article included in the body of the paper). Citations in the body of the paper should be (authors, year ). Points will be taken off for inserting a title of an article in the body of the paper or failing to provide a reference page in APA style.
