Explore strategies for developing leadership skills among nurses to address communication, cultural, and ethical challenges in nursing practice. there are core questions that should be considered and answered including: What is the topic? How does the topic relate to the course: Oral Communication? Why this topic? And how do these articles support the topic? You will create a comprehensive search the scholarly literature for at least 3 peer-reviewed articles published within 5 years. This annotated bibliography should provide sufficient background on your topic with current relevance to nursing practice. Each article in your annotative bibliography should be referenced according to current APA format. After the reference, you will include a summary, assessment, and a reflection. Summary: Your summary should focus on an analysis of the information within the article. Please avoid simply repeating the article content. Question the main purpose of the article, main arguments, main points, and main focus. Include the type of research was used in the article and the findings or results. Assessment: The next step after your summary will be your assessment or evaluation. Question the reliability of the information and if the delivery was objective or biased. Question any limitations, strengths, and weaknesses. How was this content relevant to your topic of interest? Reflection: The last step is your reflection on how this article aligns with your topic interest. How can you use this article to support or show a contrast on your topic? Describe how the information in the article added to your understanding of your topic. Question if the article influenced your perspective on your topic. Each annotative bibliography should be no longer than one page. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. The format of annotated bibliographies should follow this template (entirely double-spaced with 1-inch margins). First, the title page includes the paper title (bolded with 4 spaces from the top of the page), an extra space, the author name(s), author affiliation/school, course number, a colon, and course name for which the paper is being submitted, instructor name, assignment due date, and page number at the top-right corner. Fonts such as12-point Times New Roman, should be used. After the title page, your annotated bibliographies should begin. Annotated bibliographies do NOT have reference pages because citations should be first at the top of the page. Additionally, the references should be listed in alphabetical order, double-spaced, with a hanging indent. Notice that the citation is first, and the paragraph (or annotation) follows with an indentation of 0.5-inches. Textual works like periodicals are generally published on a continuous basis and include journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and even blogs and other online platforms that publish articles. Use outline above for periodical citations. Last Name, F.M. (Date). Title of book. Publisher Name. DOI or URL When paraphrasing or directly quoting, be sure to use proper APA citations. For in-text citations, APA format follows the author-date method. In parenthetical citations, the author’s name and publication date appear in parentheses. For example, if a work has one author, the parenthetical citation should be (Last Name, Year). If a work has two authors, write both authors like (Last Name & Last name, Year). If there are three or more authors, cite as (Last Name et al., Year). In narrative citations, the author’s name is incorporated into the text as part of the sentence and the year follows in parentheses. For example, Koehler (2016) noted… Notice how only the year is in parenthesis and not the author. Because the author has already been mentioned in the text, they do not need to be repeated in the citation. When directly quoting, use paragraph or page numbers after the year; for example, (2018, p. 470) or (2018, para. 4). Parenthetical citations can also include author’s last name; for example, (Koehler, 2016, p. 470) or (Koehler, 2016, para. 4). Last Name, F.M. (n.d.). Title of work. Site Name. URL Finally, the content of annotated bibliographies should contain three major components: a summary, assessment, and reflection. When summarizing, you may ask yourself: What are the main arguments? What is the point of the source? What topics are covered? To assess, ask yourself, is it a relevant or useful source? How does it compare to your other sources? Is the information legitimate and reliable? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the source? Is the source biased or objective? What is the goal of the source? Lastly, when reflecting, consider, how does this fit into your research? Was this source helpful? How does this shape your argument? How can you use this article in your paper? Has it changed your thinking about the topic? Though not all questions must be answered, they should provide a starting point for your annotations. Be sure to answer these questions at length to demonstrate your critical thinking and understanding of the material.
